Monthly Minis

Join us in creating a mini-comic, every month!

The next Minicomic Challenge is October 1

And it continues on the first Saturday of every month.

The goal is to complete an entire minicomic in one day (or weekend). You can read more about it in the FAQ and Guidelines sections.

(This site is a work in progress – So please pardon the dust.)

The Rules Guidelines

“Rules” is a strong word, and the Monthly Minicomic Challenge is about creating something new and fun, it’s not a death march endurance test. So let’s call these… “Guidelines:”

  • Have fun!
  • Avoid stressing out. Would you have to stay up all night to finish? Well, it won’t hurt to finish up on Sunday – We won’t hold it against you.
  • Try something new! Stretch yourself. Failure is cheap, I mean c’mon, what’s one day and one sheet of paper? Take a risk!

That’s pretty much it. Try to do as much of the comic on the weekend of the event, but feel free to be thinking of story ideas and characters before hand.

FAQ

When is it?

The first Saturday of every month.

Where is it?

Wherever you like to draw!

Currently there are no planned event locations. But that may change, so check back each month ‘cause you never know, there might be a meetup in your home town!

Would you like to host a Monthly Mini Meetup? Feel free to get in touch and we’ll post the meeting info on the site.

What are the rules?

We don’t really like rules around here. They kind of go against the grain! So let’s call these “guidelines.” They aren’t hard and fast, but try to follow them as best you can.

  1. Try to make a whole minicomic (usually 8 4.25x5.5” pages, which is a single 8.5x11 page folded twice).

  2. Try to do it all in one day (Saturday).

You can have an idea for the script and characters coming into Monthly Mini Weekend, but you should do all of the drawing on the day itself.

You can read more on under guidelines.

What is a minicomic?

Wait, you’ve read this far and don’t even know what a minicomic is? I’m shocked!

You can probably glean something from the resources page.

How do I make a minicomic?

Good question! So good in fact, we have a whole page set aside for it. Check out the resources page.

What’s the prize?

Just the satisfaction of knowing you completed a complete comic. And, you’ll have a comic you can sell or share!
